A coach trip around the Falun World Heritage site

Guidning i Världsarvet FalunJoin us on an exciting journey in time and space! Our skilled world heritage site guides will tell you about the origin of the mine and thereby the history of Falun and the world heritage site. The tour starts with a breathtaking view of Stora Stöten (the Great Pit).

Then you can explore different parts of the townscape and build up a picture of what Falun looked like in its heyday as Sweden’s second most important town. The trip includes a look round Falun’s various districts of wooden buildings, with former miners’ dwellings, merchants’ houses and the beautiful town centre with Stora Kopparberg Church – Falun’s oldest building – and its cemetery, including the grave of Fet-Mats, a boy and miner who was shrouded in myths.

From there the tour takes you to the areas where “bergsmän” – mining cooperative homesteaders – lived and Svedens Bergsmansgård, the homestead where Carl Linnaeus celebrated his wedding to Sara Elisabeth Moraea in 1739. You will also pass Gamla Staberg, a miner’s homestead in the “Caroline” style of the 17-18th centuries. The homestead includes an interesting Baroque garden. Coffee and cakes are available at both these locations. The trip ends at Kopparberget (the Copper Mountain), where you can visit several craftspeople such as stone polishers and silversmiths.

This is an example of a tour of the Falun World Heritage site that takes about four hours. The price for a group of at least 40 people starts at SEK 240 per person, including VAT. This price includes the coach travel, presentations by a world heritage site guide and coffee. For more details and bookings, call the Tourist Information Office in Falun on +46 23-830 50.
